Our Goal
In today’s society, there are an increasing number of ways to publish poetry and other creative work, yet simultaneously, control of free speech and press is growing. The imprisonment of artists, communications blockades, suppression of political expression, and the monitoring of internet usage are all becoming common threats to free press and publication.
Reporters without Borders has stated that “The number of countries regarded as safe, where journalists can work in complete security, continues to decline, while authoritarian regimes continue to tighten their grip on the media.” This is not limited only to journalism, but to creative arts. We wish to provide a space for a variety of voices to publish, regardless of the publishing situation in their current location, as well as for those who have experienced the effects of restricted speech and press.
All proceeds after tax from the sale of Permission Granted Anthology will be donated to PEN International, an organization dedicated to promoting literature and freedom of expression.
“The only thing that can save the world is the reclaiming of the awareness of the world. That’s what poetry does.”
Allen Ginsberg
“From the beginnings of literature, poets and writers have based their narratives on crossing borders, on wandering, on exile, on encounters beyond the familiar.”
